Networked Graphics: almost there

Dear all, Looking forward to meet soon in Rotterdam! We'll be driving North next week with quite a large crew: Pierre Marchand (Scribus, FontMatrix and more), Pierre Huyghebaert (leads co-position LGRU-commission), John Haltiwanger, Stephanie Villayphiou (LGRU-reader), Alexandre Leray (LGRU-reader) and Gijs de Heij. Of course Donatella, Nicolas and me will be there. Unfortunately Alexandre Prokudine (CREATE) could not make it last minute. We think we found a worthy replacement in Olivier Saraja. Olivier will report on the meeting for Linux France and/or Linux Pratique in French; to be translated for Libre Graphics Magazine later. Not everyone can be there all the time but I think you'll enjoy their energy :-) All the best, Femke

C'est une agréable surprise de voir que vous y participez (j'avais découvert votre studio via votre article dans Back Cover 4). Je viens d'envoyer à l'instant un mail à l'adresse donatella(a)constantvzw.org <mailto:donatella@constantvzw.org> écrit en anglais, je me permets de vous réécrire en français, c'est plus pratique pour m'expliquer plus clairement. Il y a une semaine, j'ai présenté à mes professeurs, dans le cadre de la sélection du sujets de diplôme, un projet appelé "laboratoire graphique parallèle". Ce projet reprend les mêmes idées et principes que LGRU, à plus petite échelle (je suis seul et je devrai m'entourer de quelques personnes qui veulent bien m'accorder leur temps). La surprise est que j'ai entrepris se projet sans avoir connaissance du votre, c'est là que ça devient intéressant. Je pensais aller à la rencontre d'hacklabs, de designers qui font leurs propres machines. De plus, je ne sais pas si c'est pareil aux Beaux Arts de Valence, mais dans mon école nous avons des sections d'architecture, de design produit, de textile… c'est donc l'occasion de créer des liens entre différents designers, différents points de vues mais aussi aller à la rencontre d'autres personnes. Bref, je ne manque pas de motivation pour mener à bien mon projet. Et puis, vers août dernier, j'avais contacté OSP sans but précis, juste pour savoir comment contribuer et j'essaie par ailleurs d'en discuter à l'école pour sensibiliser mes camarades et mes professeurs aux possibilités que pourraient offrir des logiciels libres et questionner aussi le rapport que nous avons aux logiciels adobe devenus par défaut, de meilleurs accès aux connaissances de la typographie ou de l'histoire du graphisme, initier des discussions critiques sur la place du design graphique aujourd'hui… plein de choses en sommes (c'est passionnant). Peut-être, si cela vous intéresse, nous pourrions échanger sur nos différentes expériences, avoir un dialogue… Mon projet commencera vraiment à partir de septembre 2012 jusqu'en juin 2013 (c'est donc moins long que votre démarche…) Par ailleurs, je suis à la recherche d'un stage dans le cadre de mes études de mai à juin ou juillet 2012 (c'est 1 mois minimum mais je peux prolonger). Networked Graphics meeting update & travel arrangements

hi all, i'm very happy to check in with an update on our forthcoming LGRU programme, fully (but barely) recovered from our official opening at WORM last weekend - to those among you that were there and whom i saw in a glimpse through the crowds; thanks much for coming, we had a *blast* :) This message is mainly intended to streamline the travel arrangements for December 7-11, as discussed in an earlier stage the host organisation, in this case WORM, will try to book everybody's travel&trips best as possible. Below i've outlined a preliminary programme for the week, *please review* this in case you might not be able to attend all days - this way you can possibly choose the best times for yourself to be present (but of course we hope to have everyone there the whole time!). /Wednesday/ 7th: from 10am on, introductory presentations and general LGRU updates from all partners. Depending on time and number of presentations this will flow into presentations by invited guests, followed by presentations on workshop topics/strands and splitting up into working groups for the next days. No set programme in the evening, just easy dinner/drinks to settle in. /Thursday/ 8th: Start of workshops from 10am till 13.30-ish, then out for lunch followed by a small fieldtrip - most likely a visit to the Piet Zwart Institute to have a look there and possibly some student presentations, yet to be confirmed. In the evening we run our regular film programme in the WORM cinema, only this time linked to the LGRU sessions. We'll leave room for discussion afterwards, and drinks ;) /Friday/ 9th: A solid working day, no further things planned - however there will be possibility (including space + equipment) for people to do ad-hoc presentations on topics or tropes that emerged in days before, or for people that came from outside of the LGRU scope but who may have interesting contributions to our research unit. In the evening we host a Demoparty(!) fully up-to-date and in the context of Networked Graphics, think newskool WebGL demos and other HTML5 and <canvas> goodness, plenty wild-eyed geeks and dance music all night... (one of the confirmed guests: http://www.low.fi/~visy ) /Saturday/ 10th: Continuation of working in groups + additional workshops open to public and/or other invitees. In the evening we run another 'regular' WORM programme of experimental noise and electro with, among others, Christian Galarreta from the Lima underground noise scene, Peru. /Sunday/ 11th: Presentations of projects that were spawned during the week, followed by an evaluation meeting with discussion of future LGRU plans. depending on travel times we can have lunch together before saying goodbyes - of course if you wanna hang out a bit longer you're very welcome. *!* For each partner/organization please do the following: send all travel details to my colleague Katelyn via katelyn(a)worm.org , including the preferred times for your travels, full names as in passport, date of birth + any other considerations and booking info we should be aware of. We will then proceed to book all tickets and get back to with confirmations and e-ticket-filled emails. Once we tackle the travel hurdle I will get back to you with more specific details on the programme including all invited guests and the general threads and topics for the week, and some more detailed information on accomodation and getting around in Rotterdam. Dear co-organisers, Two weeks ago I participated to a Kick-off meeting organised by the EACEA regarding the funds received for our LGRU project. It was useful and clarified certain points of our contract. In attachment you find a little report of the meeting and the pdf's of the presentations given by the EACEA team.
