Here's a partially functional demo of a future align+distribute tool,
that I hinted at in Brussels:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APGguBZOl10
It's an interactive aligner, where you are not bound to the 3 common
left-center-right positions, nor to only straight horizontal or vertical
distribution paths.

Alex Leray just forwarded this to OSP -- could be interesting to make proposals here?
It for sure smells like a Networked Graphics!
(I'm emerging again, as you notice ;-))

Subject: The Graphical Web & SVG Open 2012 - Call for Participation
Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2012 22:04:01 +0100
From: Andreas Neumann <a.neumann(a)carto.net>

Hello,
You are receiving this email because you previously visited a SVG Open
conference. The 10th anniversary edition of the SVG Open conference will
be the last "traditional" edition of the conference series. At the same
time it will be the first edition of a new conference series called "The
Graphical Web".
At past SVG Open conferences it became increasingly obvious that many
graphical web applications usually do not rely on a single graphic
technology (like SVG), but often on a mixture of different technologies,
such as SVG, CSS, Canvas, WebGL, Javascript, HTML5 video and audio. For
this reason we are broadening the scope to a wider range of open graphic
technologies for the web - in principal all graphic technologies that
are officially backed by the W3C consortium and that aren't under
control of a single company.

Call for Participation
The organizing committee is looking for contributors presenting a paper
or teaching a course. Presenters are asked to submit an extended
abstract in English with an approximate length of 400 to 800 words by
April 16. The abstracts will be reviewed (2 reviews per abstract) and
presenters will be informed about acceptance by May 20. If your abstract
is accepted, you will be asked to submit your full paper by August 30,
according to instructions that will be sent to you. Accepted abstracts,
papers and presentations will be published in web proceedings.
In the past we have suggested a list of topics for this conference. Now
that interactive web graphics are natively available in all browsers and
integrated into HTML, we want to hear from the web graphics and
developer communities (web, mobile, and otherwise) on topics ranging
from but not limited to art and design, integrated web experience,
webapps and user interfaces, the sciences, mapping, data visualization,
3d visualization, and all other uses of interactive open web graphics.
Potential course instructors are asked to submit a course outline by
April 16. The outlines will be reviewed by a committee and instructors
will be informed about acceptance by May 20. Accepted course instructors
will receive a free conference pass and admission to the dinner event.
Accepted course outlines will be published as course descriptions in the
program. Therefore they should be directed at those who might register
for the course rather than the reviewers. Courses are 150 minutes in
length, scheduled for the morning and afternoon at the day after the
main conference. We are interested in proposals for both beginner
courses and advanced courses to cater to the diverse interests of all
conference attendees.

Thank you for your support!

Hello everyone,
It was great to come to LGRU in Brussels. Thanks to everyone for
those wonderful days and great talks and conversations!
If anyone (especially women but not just) has the interest to come to
London in May, we have the first 'Flossie' event coming up. Please
see below, including a call for proposals. It would be great to see
some LGRU representation there - especially perhaps a workshop or
presentation. It is hosted at a university, but will be a small,
informal event and for anyone travelling we will try to find
accommodation for you among the organising group and friends.
The deadline for the call for proposals is a bit tight now (19 March),
but don't worry, just jot down a quick proposal and submit it... there
is time for more detail later. Or email me if you're not too sure.
Very best to all,
Lisa

Hi everyone,
Following on from the Reader session at LGRU in Brussels recently I'd
like to help out with the Reader. I've had a brief read of the mailing
list archives and just need a bit of help on where to start.
* How can I edit the website to add my name to the articles that need reading?
* Is there a guide on using the website?
* When is the next meeting? (15th or 16th March)
* Is there a protocol for adding suggested reading? (I'd like to
suggest this, http://www.artscouncil.org.uk/what-we-do/our-priorities-2011-15/digital-inn…
though it contains other essays inside)
I think that's all for now

Dear friends;
I just end a small article in my blog about art and digital culture in
Latinamerica. Here I talk my experience in the fantastic two days in
LGRU.
I wrote it in spanish because I will send it to some list in
Latinamerica, to share the experience I had and the interesting
projects I saw.

Please, if you find something wrong, a bad link, or need to update a
link or a picture, please let me know it.
For me it was a great experience to share with other people from
graphic field, the open culture. It was great to meet nice people from
different backgrounds and approaches to the culture.
Thanks to Marcos Garcia for the advice to go to LGRU, and special
thanks to Femke and Donatella for being good host...
I hope to see you again, maybe, in Norway!
