Subject: [FM Discuss] FLOSS for Schools

Hi,
I am just compiling a list of FLOSS software used in Finnish schools based on the interviews we did for the FLOSS for Schools manual. Note that this is just what the teachers actually mentioned in the interview, so it is quite far from a complete list. Probably this pretty much covers the software they use most frequently.
Here is the list: Linux, LTSP, Dream School, Moodle, Mozilla Firefox, LibreOffice/OpenOffice, GIMP, Scribus, Geodebra, Pahvi, Kino, OpenShot, VLC.
A lot of this stuff is already covered by FLOSS Manuals, but it gives some ideas about what might be needed in the future. The next project of the Finnish FLOSS Manuals is the Dream School Manual in Finnish, English and Swedish: http://dreamschool.eu/

Hello LGRU,
Later today, I am planning to send an update to the meeting I hosted in
Madrid, on the topic of creating an informal network of free culture
learners (students, teachers, educators, publishers, etc) in art and
design.
Next to the list of 30 people that attended and gave their emails, I
know that others already on this list and who could not attend the
session would like to join the network too.
If you are one of them, please contact me off list with the following
information so that I can send you the info as well.
Name, email, location, affiliation.
Thanks!
a.

Hey Folks,
It looks like somebody stole my book! I'm very flattered but it was a
proof and the only copy I brought to Madrid. If you happened to take
"Heroic Real Estate Otter of the 21st Century" I would be most grateful
if you put it back on the black publications pedestal in the "hacker
commons" area on the 2nd floor. No questions will be asked.
and for those who are interested, you can order the book here:
http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/excode
Oh and check out the other LGM books here:
http://libregraphicsmeeting.org/2013/books/
thanks!

Hi everyone,
it seems that the financial crisis is in the subject of a lot of topics
here at LGM.
This mobile museum of contemporary cuts seems like an interesting format
to reappropriate in our different countries, don't you think?
btw, congratulations on the great work for hosting LGM, I think for
those who didn't see the space the days before, no one would believe you
were missing of anything. It actually looks very chic!
See you later there,
S.

New Project from The Museum of Contemporary Cuts (MoCC) Dear Friends
and Colleagues,
/
/I would like to share with you information on a new project from The
Museum of Contemporary Cuts (MoCC): /We Have Come to Shack Up with You/,
by artist Lanfranco Aceti.
On April 13th 2013, Lanfranco Aceti Inc. sponsors 10 return train trips
from London to Wendover, to the country home of the current Prime
Minister. In the spirit of sacrifice and in order to share the costs of
the current debt, perhaps the Prime Minister may consider providing
accommodation in the extra number of rooms of his country home. You can
read more and follow the development of the project here:
http://museumofcontemporarycuts.org/we-have-come-to-shack-up-with-you-pr/.
The Museum of Contemporary Cuts (MoCC) is a new international museum
that focuses on the impact that the current economic crisis has on the
arts, artists and the creative industries. MoCC is a mobile museum, an
art project in itself, a curatorial vagary and a documentation site of
contemporary cuts to art organizations that are often left undocumented
and un-collected. http://museumofcontemporarycuts.org/.
Best wishes / Med venlig hilsen / Pozdrowienia

To Femke and Monica, and anyone who ordered a copy of the LGM Fieldnotes
book:
Since there were a couple of changes and additions to the schedule, a
correction sheet for the book is now available:
https://github.com/greyscalepress/lgm-2013/raw/master/errata/errata.pdf
Just download the PDF, print it on a piece of A4, use cissors and glue to
update your book!
Cheers,
Manuel
Hi everyone,
deadline is coming fast and we need to find a better title than "LGRU
reader" for our project.
Here is a brainstorm of titles: http://lgru.pad.constantvzw.org:8000/150
Would be great if you could put a mark on titles you find interesting
and/or propose new ones.
Ideally, we would like to settle our mind by tomorrow 16h.
Thanks a lot for your help!

Hello LGRU,
Jon and I have been working for the last few months to create a system
that turns free graphic design tools into musical instruments. We are
going to present it in the form of an experimental theater piece / noise
opera. But we need your help!
We need designer-actors who can work expressively with GIMP, myPaint or
Scribus. For those who are shy about getting on stage, there are no
speaking roles. Almost all "acting" will take place on the computer
screen following an IRC-based dialog and improvising with the
graphical-musical instruments.
Please note, the script was written to reflect the problematic
conventional gender and power roles in the design world, but we are
willing to shift these around.
These are the roles:
Liza Doolittle - A young, not-so-fashionable, inexperienced designer.
She works in a copy shop and wants to be the intern for the Raster and
Servant design agency.
Henry Raster - A successful and very arrogant designer, owner of the firm.
Mrs. Raster - Henry's mother. Part owner of the agency. Calm and kind
but often frustrated by her son's rude behavior.
Joseph Kern - Henry's friend and partner in the design agency. A
slightly older gentleman (or woman) who learned design in the pre-PC era.
Hilde - A junior designer at the agency.
The performance will be on Friday night. We will do one rehearsal on
Thursday night. If you are interested please contact Jon or me.
