Hey LGRU list,
Already one month has passed since the wonderful LGRU meeting in
Porto. And summer arrived, finally, sort of.
I was planning a proper writeup, but of course this didn't materialize
- so instead of a long report, here is a raw list of things / links /
topics / ideas / action items that may (or may not) be followed-up and
evolve.
## Stuff done at the LGRU meeting Porto:
- Tons of notes were taken across various etherpad instances (links below).
- A hardware/software survey was conducted:
<http://greyscalepress.com/2013/news/lgru-laptops/>
- Some photos were taken: <http://pix.4o4.ch/photos/album-2/list>
- Delicious fried eggplants with garlic were consumed.
- Did a "foundry in a box" worksession with Manufactura Independente -
resulting, among many prospective ideas, in a proportional version of
Inconsolata (in the Day4 folder here:
## Random ideas:
- Idea for Floss Manuals FR: do a manual on "running an art collective".
- Idea from Femke: "How to run an LGM" -- do a "methodology and
guidelines" writing sprint.
## Stuff to follow up:
- Upcoming Libre Graphics Magazine with M.I.
- Foundry-In-A-Box project.
- Article by Pierre/OSP about their recent CSS-to-Print experiments,
addressing the web standards community (ALAP & al.).
## Recordings:
- Aymeric's talk, "Sandbox Culture", and the introduction talk of the
"Books with an attitude" exhibition can be found here:
- Btw, Aymeric's previous talk on "Software Exile" is also there, in
the file friday-28-sept-1.ogg in the
<http://sound.constantvzw.org/LGRU/abstracting-craft/> folder. Live
notes are in <http://lgru.pad.constantvzw.org:8000/104>
- where is part 1 of the trilogy (on "open design")? :-0

## The LGRU Reader:
The print version should come later this year, designed by Steph and
Alex, published by b42. The online version is here:
http://reader.lgru.net/
Some non-free texts can be read only when logging in:
http://reader.lgru.net/admin/ (user+pass = lgru)
## Some follow-ups:
- Inspired by the discussion that followed Danja Vasiliev's
"SuperGlue" presentation, I compiled a list of recent
distributed/offline/peer2peer/unhosted (post)(networked)art projects &
hacks: <http://ms-studio.net/?p=3016> - you're welcome to consolidate
that movement by writing some serious theory about it, or maybe a
manifesto.
- A recent LGM follow-up: with Ale Rimoldi, we did a Libre Graphics
worksession at Dock18/Zurich last friday, where USB-keys filled with
LGM-videos and libre fonts were distributed (and maps of european
FLOSS and libre type classification were drafted into alpha status).

Dear Nerea, dear people at Medialab-Prado
this quick email just to introduce you Loretta Borrelli. As I told
you she's one of the max expert I know of editorial system for
online publishing and content sharing. She's also an activitst and
core member of the AHA list. Finally, she's also an author from
Digicult Network and my partner in crime at the Bergamo Academy
class of "New editorial system for the arts" where she will lead the
laboratory part of the course
this is what we could do, just to recup what we discussed about:
- if you will invite Loretta to the Libre Graphics workshop in
Madrid, covering costs for flight + accomodation
- she will be my eyes, and much more than that. she's the best
person to have there, much more than me. she will report about the
event, and we will publish it on Digicult. Of course, I will also
help you to promote the event through Digicult itself, it will be a
pleasure
- after learing new systems at the workshop, my idea is also that
she will be able to bring the learning back in the laboratory part
of the class. Side by side with other systems she will teach, the
ones from LGM will be included
- finally, it could be the chance to introduce Medialab Prado and
the workshop itself at the Academy. It means that, the next year,
there will be maybe the chance for you to be invited ot have the
workshop directly in the Academy and maybe also in some other venues
we could find in Milan itself (and Italy) through Digicult networks
I think it's enough for now, any more ideas are welcome
My best
mk

Dear Marco,
My name is Nerea García and I work for Medialab-Prado in the
communication department. We know and follow Digicult for a long
time now, that's why, funnily enough, you were already on the
list of expert journalists we would like to invite to the event.
Therefore we are very pleased that you showed interest in coming
to LGM through your colleage Loretta Borrelli.
We need to go through the travel and accomodation budget first
and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
All the best,
Nerea

The design caravan Open Source Publishing invites you for a design education experiment this summer — from 26 until 30 August 2013
By and large, graphic design students bring a laptop to school, and create their work using digital software tools. This hard- and software represents a technological and cultural heritage that is seldomly questioned, and a potential that goes unexploited. Using free and open source software and engaging in its culture provides an alternative by making a design practice possible with a more intimate and experimental relation to its toolbox.
Beyond the implications for design practice, the culture of free and open source software challenges traditional education paradigms because knowledge is exchanged outside institutional borders, and participants move between roles easily (teacher, student, developer, user). Following from their series of workshops and Print Parties, OSP proposes a summer school experiment.
Welcome!
